    Changes to Administrative Procedures

    Presented By Judge April Bristow

    April will be discussing recent rule changes and administrative orders affecting civil practitioners. Specifically, she will be discussing the changes to Florida Rule of General Procedure 2.420, which no longer require the Clerk to screen for confidential information in civil filings, and the recent differentiated case management Administrative Orders issued by the Florida Supreme Court and the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit.

    About Judge Bristow:

    Judge April Bristow is a recent appointee to the Palm Beach County Court. Prior to her appointment, she served as General Counsel for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. In this capacity, she provided legal advice to the Chief Judge, Trial Court Administrator and the judicial officers of the Circuit. In addition to providing legal services to the judiciary, Ms. Bristow also oversaw the trial court law clerks and managed the certified process server, vehicle immobilization, and court appointed attorney programs.

    Before joining the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Judge Bristow was a career attorney at the Fourth District Court of Appeal where she considered all matters of state law at the appellate level. Prior to that, Judge Bristow was in private practice at a national firm where she specialized in large-scale construction disputes.

    Judge Bristow obtained her J.D., cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law, and her B.A. in English, cum laude, from the University of Florida. While in law school, Judge Bristow was on associate on Law Review and was a Teaching Fellow for the legal writing department.

    SPBCBA 2021-2022 COVID-19 Procedures

    2021-2022 SPBCBA events will operate with COVID-19 safety protocols in mind. Please note that this is an evolving situation, and our processes and procedures may change as more information is provided by our venues, the CDC and other governmental authorities. We will communicate all changes with you as soon as they are received and ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate these difficult and unusual circumstances with the safety of our membership and speakers in mind.

    1. Audience Capacity: SPBCBA event attendance will be restricted to comply with each venue’s social distancing requirements.

    2. Virtual Options: SPBCBA will offer virtual attendance options for those members and guests who wish to participate in this manner.

    3. Seating: All tables will be restricted based on table size and location to provide optimal spacing.

    4. Mask Wearing and Social Distancing: At this time, SPBCBA will require all attendees to wear masks at in-person events, and masks are to only be removed when eating or drinking. For all events, the SPBCBA will adhere to the CDC’s guidance and recommendations in existence at the time of the event and as they relate to face coverings and social distancing for attendees. Consequently, guidance may shift over time, but update event attendees accordingly. For the most recent guidance, please visit the CDC’s website.

    5. Meals: All meals and appetizers at events will be plated as opposed to buffet or passed by staff.

    CAUTION: An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By attending in-person SPBCBA events, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

    1.5 - Limited experience.  Still working to get the ball into play

    2.0 - Needs on-court experience.  Familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play

    2.5 - Court coverage not strong.  Can sustain short rally of slow pace with other players of same ability

    3.0 - Fairly consistent hitting medium paced shorts

    3.5 - Improved stroke dependability.  Exhibits more aggressive net play.  Improved court coverage.  Developing teamwork in doubles

    4.0 - Dependable strokes, directional control depth on forehand and backhand sides.  Ability to use lobs overheads, approach shots and volleys with success

    4.5 - Master the use of power and spins. Handles pace, sound footwork, control depth of shots and vary play according to opponents.  Can hit first serve with power and accuracy and place the second serve

    5.0 - Good shot anticipation and outstanding shot or attribute around game structure. Regularly hits winners and force errors off of short balls.  Can put away volleys, successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys, overhead smashes, has good depth and spin on most second serves

    5.5 - Developed power and/or consistency as a major weapon.  Can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation.  Hits dependable shots under stress

    6.0 - Intensive training for national tournament competition at junior and collegiate levels. Obtained sectional and/or national ranking.

    Speaker Bio:

    Travis Hayes is a shareholder of Grant Fridkin Pearson, P.A and has practiced law in Southwest Florida since 2005. Travis focuses his practice in estate planning, estate and trust administration, and probate and trust litigation. He is a frequent speaker and author on estate planning and estate and trust administration topics. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Trusts & Estates since 2018, and he holds an AV Preeminent peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

    Travis is a member of the Executive Council for the Real Property, Probate & Trust Law (“RPPTL”) Section of The Florida Bar and currently serves as the Chair of the RPPTL Probate Law and Procedure Committee. He is a past Vice-Chair of the RPPTL Legislation Committee and a past Vice-Chair of the RPPTL Digital Assets and Information Study Committee. Travis is a past Chair of the Probate Rules Committee for The Florida Bar.
